Open after school, on weekends and all through the summer, the Y is a perfect place to spend free time with friends, playing sports you like to play or learning something new.
Teams are made up in all age brackets so a boy is teamed up with his peers. It is easy to get into wrestling, basketball, soccer, softball and swimming; possibly even martial arts or scuba diving in some communities. You just sign up, show up, and be a good sport.
You will find cool team names for every sport and most of the equipment is provided by the Y. There are great outdoor games in season for soccer, softball and other outdoor sports. Indoors you get to play games like basketball in a great gym, or maybe work on some gymnastics moves.
There will likely be more choices than you have time to participate in and it’s strictly up to you what you take part in. There will be experienced coaches and the team spirit makes for instant friendship.
Some cities have waterslides, skate parks or scuba diving facilities connected with the Y.
The low-cost membership fees should never be an issue for they are often waived or taken care of by scholarship programs. The cool thing about the YMCA is that it provides an alternative after school, weekend and summertime place for boys to play sports, build friendships and have an all-around great time.
