Florida has its fair share of good waves when the time is right. The surfing culture is also steadily growing and it is becoming more accepted. Surfing in Florida has been ‘harassed’ by authorities as far back as the 60’s. It was attempted to be banned, but the Supreme Court ruled that unjustified. In protest to the Supreme Court ruling, cops started taking away people’s boards and other acts of vandalism to prevent surfing from expanding.
Now, however, the public attitude of surfing has changed, especially since Hurricane Sandy. Sandy brought in such huge waves that Florida has been a highly sought out surfing location ever since.
This new surfing exposure in Florida has allowed local surfer and entrepreneur Nick Mohnacky to create a new iPhone (and soon Android) app that will be a surfers dream-come- true. Not only will surfers be able to share and document their experiences with each other, but the app will provide information on where the biggest waves are, where your friends are surfing at, and what the water temperatures are like.
This app will be free for surfers because of the marketing opportunities available.
